Welcoming SSE to Slave-Free Alliance as our newest member
SSE has joined Slave‑Free Alliance as part of its continued commitment to international human rights standards across its operations and supply chains.
Slave-Free Alliance is delighted to welcome SSE as a member.
This milestone builds on the collaborative relationship that SSE and the Slave‑Free Alliance have developed over several years. Through this partnership, both organisations have worked closely to deepen SSE’s understanding of its most salient human rights risks across key areas of its business, including procurement, people, sustainability, and major project delivery.
Slave-Free Alliance will support SSE to strengthen its due diligence processes and build capability across the organisation, to help it meet its goal of ensuring that respect for human rights is embedded across its operations, supply chains, and business relationships.
Membership in the Slave‑Free Alliance will further support SSE to:
• Enhance risk assessment and risk management across global supply chains
• Build organisational awareness and capability on modern slavery indicators
• Strengthen governance and internal processes relating to human rights due diligence
• Align more closely with evolving regulatory expectations and best practice standards
• Engage proactively with stakeholders to drive meaningful and lasting change
Esther Black, Head of Social & Economic Sustainability, SSE plc, commented: “Joining the Slave‑Free Alliance is an important next step in our human rights journey. We recognise our responsibility to safeguard the dignity and rights of everyone connected to our business, and we are committed to continuous improvement. The expert support of Slave Free Alliance will help us strengthen our systems, continue to challenge ourselves, and drive positive impacts across our value chain.”
Together, SSE and Slave‑Free Alliance look forward to continuing their shared work in building a fairer, safer, and more responsible energy sector for the future.
Rachel Hartley, Consultancy Director at Slave-Free Alliance said: “After four years of working side-by-side on impactful human rights projects, it’s incredibly exciting to see SSE take this next step by joining Slave-Free Alliance. Our partnership has always been rooted in trust, innovation and a shared determination to drive meaningful change. SSE continues to challenge what good looks like in business and human rights, and their willingness to lead, experiment and push boundaries is inspiring. It’s a privilege to deepen our collaboration in this way.”
